The curious case of the toothfairy's first visit

Through some bizzare twist of fate, Gaby has lost both her first and second tooth in the same day. She was beside herself. The frist one fell out at school and the second one later that afternoon at home. They had both been loose and Gaby had worked out special techniques for eating toast and carrots that didn't involve her front teeth at all. She put both teeth under her pillow along with a letter asking if she could keep her tooth. Kristin and I had let Annabel keep her first one, so we weren't surprised to see that. But then there was an extra sentence requesting that the tooth fairy give her a toy instead of money.

Kristin was annoyed with Annabel who has only recently been let "under the tent" so to speak on the toothfairy and we had made her swear to keep it a secret from her sister. Annabel seemed somewhat upset by the deception, and we suspected that this was her attempt at retribution. Kristin scolded Annabel and told Gaby to remove the toy request from the note and wright a "normal note" to the toothfairy which Gaby did.

Kristin and I had set up a special tooth fairy pakcage with two envelopes, one for each tooth with a coin, a little letter, a small bracelet and a five dollary bill. I snuck the envelopes in just ender her pillow and we went to sleep.

We awoke in the morning to find Gaby in our bed holding three silver dollars with no evelopes and no letters anywhere. Kristin and I both looked at each other confused. We went into the bedroom and found the envelopes just behind her pillow, but unopened. We both looked at each other and then looked over at Annabel, who didn't seem at all knowing. Gaby opened the envelope, looked at the bracelet and exclaimed "she did bring me a toy!"

We later asked Annabel what had happened and she said that she thought Kristin and I had forgotten to bring anything for Gaby and so she had swapped placed three of her coins under the pillow. Kristin and I think that there is probably more to the story than we might know...

Gaby is 6

I can't believe Gaby is six years old! We had her big birthday party yesterday here at the house. She requested a "rockstar" party where she and her friends could sing along to their favorite songs.

Kristin did an amazing job of decorating the house and making it feel like a special day. We had a big jumpy house I'm the driveway and tables and chairs set up for twenty-five of Gaby's friends.

Gaby was absolutely glowing. It was really nice to see her so happy, not just for herself but also cheering on her friends as they sang. She was by far the most animated girl in the room, dancing to each of the songs that her friends sang and generally loving every minute.

The night before the party she had a sleepover with two of her friends here at the house. They ate popcorn and watched a movie (barbie magic of Pegasus) before going to bed. I brought down the popcorn to the girls and Gaby asked if I would sir with her so she wouldn't be scared. I said of course and sat with her in an overstuffed chair as she watched.

It was truly one of life's sweetest moments. Then they went to bed and proceeded to hide, giggle, and generally raise a ruckus until I had to go down to the bedroom and sternly warn them that part of the idea of a sleepover is actually sleeping...

Gaby's Day in Line Drawings

Gaby loves her art class. She was so excited today because she was allowed to bring her artwork home. Here is what she made:

Gaby's Invisible Friend Chloe

Gaby has an invisible friend. Sometimes she says that Annabel can't sit in the chair next to her because Chloe is sitting there. Other times, Chloe just pops up in conversation, such as "Chloe wants cereal for breakfast too."

The other day, Gaby wanted to play her new Dora WII game, but Rob and I were busy and couldn't play with her. So she said, "That's ok, I'll just have Chloe go ask Annabel if she'll play." So Rob started to leave her to play her game alone. Moments later, she decided that she better go with Chloe because Chloe only likes to go with her, she doesn't like to go by herself.

I forgot em

A few weeks ago, I had an important investor phone call to take first thing in the morning. It was my day for drop-off and Kristin had a meeting that morning as well, so we had to scramble for options. We managed to find another parent that could take Annabel that morning, and we decided that I would take Gaby to early-care at 8:00 so that I could take my call at 8:30.

We arrived at the school around 8:15, and I opened up the passenger door and slid the backseat forward to let Gaby out of her child seat. Looking down at her, I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Where are your shoes?!" I asked, shocked and surprised to see her wearing nothing but her white socks.
"I forgot em".

"You forgot em?!"

She shrugged as she considered it. "I forgot em" she said.

So we had to go back home to get her shoes. What can you do? She forgot em. She's 5.

Gaby can now ride a two wheeler!

She saw her sister trying to ride without her training wheels today and Gaby decided to give it a try too. She is a natural and had her balance after about two tries. Uncle Rick happened to be over and he saw her first few attempts. :)

Today we went to the park and Gaby was riding up and down the basketball court, making turns at either end. She even managed to start herself off once or twice.

Amazing!
